Dear ±«Óătv students, faculty and staff:

Welcome!

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for the university’s compliance with Title IX, a federal law that protects people from discrimination based on sex/gender in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. 

These are topics that may sometimes be difficult to discuss or to report, but we want you to know that ±«Óătv is committed to offer assistance, supportive measures and accommodations if granted, in case anyone is subjected to discrimination based on sex/gender.

We have a Title IX policy in place that prohibits discrimination based on sex/gender. You will find our Title IX policy on our website.  

Among the prohibited conduct is sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence stalking and sexual exploitation. A violation to our policy is inconsistent with ±«Óătv’s values. Therefore, a person who believes that they may have suffered this type of discrimination has the right to file a complaint.

A complaint may also be filed by accessing our website /sexual-misconduct.  The Title IX Office plays a vital role in investigating and responding to these issues and provides support and resources to those affected. We also want you to know that supportive measures will be provided even if the person decides not to file a formal complaint and declines their right to pursue an investigation. Supportive measures may also include referrals to counseling among other confidential resources. ±«Óătv community members are encouraged to report incidents of sexual and gender-based harassment, sexual misconduct, or any other suspected violation to our policy to the Title IX Office.

±«Óătv is committed to providing all individuals with an environment free of unlawful sex discrimination and sexual misconduct. ±«Óătv prohibits all forms of unlawful sex discrimination and sexual misconduct including, but not limited to, sex-based intimidation and harassment, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual violence.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”) is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded education programs and activities. All public and private elementary and secondary schools, school districts, colleges, and universities receiving any federal financial assistance (hereinafter “schools”, “recipients”, or “recipient institutions”) must comply with Title IX.

±«Óătv is committed to addressing all forms of unlawful sex discrimination and sexual misconduct by enacting preventative measures, educating the campus community, and utilizing grievance procedures. ±«Óătv expects all of its employees to take reasonable and necessary action to prevent, address, and respond to unlawful sex discrimination as permissible by their professional responsibilities, which are based on the capacity in which they were hired by the University.

For example, those hired as mental health counselors may be exempt from reporting instances of sexual assault if the individual does not pose a threat to him or himself or the campus community. However, a faculty member who may also hold a degree in counseling will still be required to report as he or she was hired by the University as a of faculty member rather than a mental health counselor.

In all cases the reporting party information will be shared with as few people as possible and every effort will be made to maintain privacy. Regardless of the reporting avenue those who report choose, we will make every effort to keep the report as private as the reporting party wants and let the reporting party determine the course of action whenever possible.
